Our Carbon Capturing Programme

"The oil industry is rarely perceived as "Green" however we at BWOC take very seriously our responsibilities to manage the impact we have on the environment. We are continually looking at ways to lower our own carbon footprint by reducing energy consumption, recycling waste & using recycled products.

We are encouraging our customers to follow our example & offering them the opportunity to capture some or all of their carbon emissions. I believe by working together with our customers, we can make the difference."

Mark Wayne, Managing Director.

Everyone within BWOC appreciates the importance of helping to protect the environment and the effects of CO2 within our business. At BWOC we are committed to continually looking at ways to reduce our emissions through improved efficiencies and new technologies as well as offering advice to all our customers.

  • Our internal green policy reflects our commitment to reduce the impact we as a business have on the environment and a good carbon management plan starts with emissions avoidance therefore as part of our ongoing commitment to the environment, we have undergone an internal audit to calculate the CO2 produced by our business and to actively decrease it by way of reusing, reducing and recycling.

  • Our customers are encouraged to capture some of their CO2 produced through an easy-to-use card 'club' scheme. We believe that this approach is educational, stimulating wider eco-awareness than would be achieved by providing the entire CO2 compensation for our customers.

  • Our first woodland carbon capture scheme is at Harperrig in West Lothian, 10 miles to the south-west of Edinburgh and in partnership with the Central Scotland Forest Trust (CSFT). Our newly planted trees (about 11,000 on 5.22 hectares) will eventually form part of the new 34,000 hectare network of public access woodlands being created in and around the towns of Scotland's degraded central belt. Forest Carbon has completed several projects with CSFT – an excellent charity that works in community native woodland creation.

  • The trees in any reforestation project are selected on advice from Forestry Commission and with reference to the UK's Biodiversity Action Plan. In every case the area's natural character and environmental needs are taken into consideration. BWOC is pleased to be part of Britain's growing drive to re-establish forests lost over the centuries to agriculture and commerce.

  • The species mix is predominately native with the addition of some naturalised conifers to blend naturally with the existing landscape and to accommodate our changing climate conditions.

  • Forest Carbon schemes follow all Kyoto carbon forestry principles and UK forestry and biodiversity best practice and their carbon calculation methodology is academically double peer-reviewed and extremely conservative (so in reality there's always much more carbon captured than was anticipated).
  • In 2013 BWOC were proud to sponsor the planting of our 100,000 tree!
